Common Loon in the early morning mist

I'd paddled my kayak out onto Baptiste Lake in Southern Ontario, dawn had only just broken and trees were casting long shadows around the edge of the lake. I could hear a Common Loon calling in the distance and as I got closer I saw a lone bird gliding slowly through the mist. The dark shadows and rising mist catching the morning sun created a beautifully calm but highly contrasting scene.
